Cheyenne, Wyo. – Drivers near the Snowy Range should brace for slick, snow-packed roads and whiteout conditions as a winter weather advisory continues through 6 a.m. Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, 5 to 10 inches of snow is expected in the higher elevations of the Snowy Mountains, accompanied by wind gusts reaching 45 mph. The advisory went into effect at 6 p.m. Sunday and affects southeastern Wyoming, including portions of the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest.
Periods of heavy snow and strong winds may significantly reduce visibility, especially on high-elevation routes like WY-130 near Centennial. Blowing snow could also impact travel on nearby stretches of I-80. Local agencies, including WYDOT and the Nebraska Department of Transportation, are urging drivers to delay non-essential travel and to check 511 services before heading out.
The advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday. Further warnings or updates could follow if conditions worsen overnight.
