Jackson, Wyoming – Travel across western Wyoming could deteriorate quickly by the Tuesday evening drive as accumulating snow begins to bury mountain routes, including Teton Pass, where conditions are expected to worsen overnight and through Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 5 p.m. Tuesday until 5 p.m. Wednesday for the Teton and Gros Ventre Mountains. Snow totals of 5 to 10 inches are expected across the Teton range, with up to 12 inches possible at the highest elevations. Teton Pass is forecast to pick up 4 to 9 inches, while Togwotee Pass could see 2 to 5 inches.

The most intense snowfall is expected between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesday, with snowfall rates reaching 0.5 to 1 inch per hour. Those rates could quickly overwhelm plowed roads and sharply reduce visibility, especially along WY-22 over Teton Pass and higher stretches of U.S. 26 and U.S. 287.

Wyoming Department of Transportation crews are expected to monitor mountain corridors, but drivers are urged to avoid non-essential travel during peak snowfall, slow down, and carry winter survival gear if crossing the passes.

Snow tapers late Wednesday afternoon, though additional advisories could follow if bands linger longer than expected.
