Cheyenne, WY – A winter weather advisory is in effect for portions of Wyoming through Saturday morning. Residents and travelers should prepare for snow, high winds, and challenging conditions.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snow accumulation could reach 8 inches in the North Laramie Range. Strong winds up to 45 mph may create hazardous conditions, especially for hunters, hikers, and snowmobilers. The advisory began at 8 a.m. Friday and continues until 5 a.m. Saturday.

The South Laramie Range and surrounding foothills will see snow totals between 2 and 4 inches, with gusts peaking at 50 mph. Reduced visibility and slick roads may complicate travel, particularly during Friday evening commutes. Interstate 80, including areas near the summit between Cheyenne and Laramie, is expected to experience significant impacts.

Blowing snow in the North Snowy Range Foothills and Snowy Range will also create dangerous travel conditions. Hikers and outdoor enthusiasts are urged to stay prepared as visibility may drop suddenly.

The NWS recommends slowing down and using extra caution while driving. Check Wyoming road conditions by calling 511 or visiting state transportation websites.

This storm poses risks for those unprepared for winter weather. If you plan to be outdoors, ensure you carry proper gear and have a reliable navigation method to prevent getting lost in low visibility.
