Riverton, WY – The National Weather Service in Riverton has extended a Winter Weather Advisory through 11 p.m. MDT Thursday, warning of continued snowfall across western Wyoming’s mountain regions.
According to the NWS, 1 to 3 inches of snow are expected between 7,500 and 9,000 feet, with 4 to 7 inches possible over higher elevations, particularly on east-facing slopes of the Wind River Mountains. The Teton, Gros Ventre, Salt River, Wyoming, and Absaroka Ranges are all included in the advisory area.
Forecasters said winter travel conditions are likely along mountain roads, including Teton Pass, Togwotee Pass, and South Pass, where slick and snow-covered stretches could develop through the evening.
“Outdoor recreationists should be prepared for cold and wet conditions,” the weather service warned. Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution, especially in areas of reduced visibility and slush.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve late tonight as snowfall tapers off. For updated travel information, the Wyoming Department of Transportation offers live road cameras and condition reports at wyoroad.info.
