Jackson, WY – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for much of western Wyoming as snow returns to the state’s higher elevations Wednesday night. The National Weather Service in Riverton warns of accumulating snow that could make mountain travel hazardous through Thursday evening.

According to the NWS, snow will begin around 6 p.m. Wednesday and continue until 11 p.m. Thursday across the Teton, Gros Ventre, Absaroka, and Wind River Ranges, including Togwotee and Teton Passes. Forecasts call for 2 to 5 inches of snow between 7,500 and 9,000 feet, with up to 10 or 11 inches possible in higher terrain.

Officials caution that slick and snow-covered roads are likely over mountain passes. The storm will also impact hunters and outdoor enthusiasts in the backcountry as temperatures drop and visibility worsens.

The National Weather Service urges drivers to slow down and use caution on mountain roads. For the latest winter travel information, visit wyoroad.info or call 511 for statewide road conditions.
