Casper, WY – A powerful winter storm is expected to sweep across central and northern Wyoming starting late Wednesday night, bringing heavy snow and hazardous travel conditions through Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect for several counties and mountain ranges, including the Wind River Mountains East, Bighorn Mountains, Cody Foothills, and the Casper and Buffalo areas. Snowfall totals could reach 8 to 12 inches in higher elevations, with lower elevations such as Natrona and Johnson Counties expecting 2 to 4 inches. Gusty winds up to 50 mph could significantly reduce visibility and worsen driving conditions, especially along South Pass and Powder River Pass.

The watch remains in effect from late Wednesday night through Friday morning, with impacts expected to begin Thursday morning. Commuters in Casper, Riverton, Lander, and surrounding areas should prepare for slippery roads and delays.

Residents are advised to monitor weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall, and prepare emergency kits for their vehicles. For the latest road updates, visit the Wyoming Department of Transportation at wyoroad.info.
