Cheyenne, WY – A winter storm is set to bring heavy snow and strong winds to southeast Wyoming and the Nebraska Panhandle starting Monday afternoon and lasting through Tuesday. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the region, warning of hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, total snow accumulations are expected to range between 3 to 7 inches, with higher amounts possible on north-facing ridges. Winds could reach 60 mph, creating blowing and drifting snow, reducing visibility to under half a mile at times.

The affected areas include Cheyenne, Laramie, Kimball, and Sidney, with potential whiteout conditions, especially on Interstate 80 and local highways. The storm is forecast to impact Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes, making travel treacherous. Officials urge residents to consider delaying travel unless absolutely necessary and to exercise extreme caution if they must be on the roads.

In addition to snowfall, wind gusts in the Laramie Valley and North Snowy Range Foothills could reach 40 mph, further complicating road conditions.

Residents are advised to stay updated on the latest weather alerts and prepare for power outages, poor visibility, and slick roads. Travelers should check WYDOT and Nebraska DOT for real-time road conditions and closures.

Stay tuned for updates as the storm develops.
