Riverton, WY – A strong winter storm continues to impact several Wyoming mountain ranges this morning, bringing heavy snowfall, high winds, and dangerous travel conditions. The National Weather Service says Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect through this afternoon, with snow expected to intensify in some areas through midday.

According to the National Weather Service Riverton office, the Teton and Gros Ventre Mountains and the Salt River and Wyoming Ranges are forecast to receive an additional 5 to 12 inches of snow, with higher elevations potentially reaching 15 to 20 more inches. Wind gusts may reach 45 mph, and peaks could see gusts near 60 mph, creating blowing and drifting snow.

A separate warning covers the western Bighorn Mountains, where another 8 to 15 inches is expected across central and northern areas, and up to 20 inches at the highest elevations. Southern portions could see 1 to 8 inches. The heaviest snow is likely between 5 a.m. and noon.

Travel across major mountain passes—including Teton Pass, Togwotee Pass, Salt River Pass, Granite Pass, and Powder River Pass—may be very difficult today. Reduced visibility, drifting snow, and rapid accumulation are expected to affect drivers through the afternoon.

The National Weather Service urges anyone traveling to carry emergency supplies, including food, water, and a flashlight. Updated snowfall graphics are available at weather.gov/riw/winter, and Wyoming road conditions can be found at wyoroad.info.
