Cheyenne, WY – A powerful winter storm continues to impact Wyoming’s Sierra Madre and Snowy Ranges, with up to two feet of snow and dangerous winds expected through late Monday night.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Cheyenne, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 PM MST. Snowfall totals between 1 and 2 feet are forecasted, with higher amounts above 10,000 feet. Winds could gust up to 50 mph, creating near-whiteout conditions and making outdoor recreation life-threatening for those unprepared.
The storm is expected to significantly reduce visibility to less than 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Officials warn that hikers and snowmobilers may become easily disoriented, and exposure to the extreme cold could lead to frostbite and hypothermia.
Travel & Safety Precautions
Authorities strongly advise delaying all travel in the affected areas. If travel is necessary, carry a winter storm kit with essentials like tire chains, blankets, food, water, and a flashlight.
