JACKSON, Wyo. – Heavy snow and strong winds are hammering the Teton and Gros Ventre Mountains today, prompting a Winter Storm Warning that remains in effect until 6 p.m. Monday. Up to three inches of additional snow and wind gusts as high as 35 mph are expected to make travel through the region hazardous.
According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, the combination of fresh snowfall and gusty winds will make roads—particularly bridges and mountain passes—slick and dangerous. The warning specifically mentions Teton and Togwotee Passes, where reduced visibility and drifting snow could make driving conditions treacherous.
Residents and visitors are urged to avoid non-essential travel. Those who must be on the roads should pack emergency supplies, including food, water, and flashlights, in case they become stranded. The Wyoming Department of Transportation advises checking road conditions before traveling at wyoroad.info.
Winter conditions are expected to ease by tonight, though colder temperatures will linger into early Tuesday. Additional winter weather alerts may be issued if snowfall redevelops midweek.
