JACKSON, Wyo. – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the Teton and Gros Ventre Mountains through 1 p.m. MST Thursday, with periods of heavy snow and gusty winds creating hazardous mountain travel this morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are expected, with as much as 12 inches possible at the highest elevations near Mount Moran and the upper Teton Range. Togwotee Pass could see 4 to 6 inches, while Teton Pass may pick up 2 to 5 inches before snow tapers later in the day. Winds gusting 25 to 40 mph will lead to areas of blowing and drifting snow, cutting visibility along mountain highways.
Travelers along U.S. Highway 26/287 and Wyoming Highway 22 should anticipate slick, snow-covered roads and reduced visibility, especially at higher elevations. “Travel could be difficult at times over Teton and Togwotee Passes,” forecasters warned.
Those planning backcountry or ski-area travel should check avalanche advisories and carry proper winter safety gear. Drivers are urged to slow down, keep headlights on, and allow extra stopping distance through the morning hours. Conditions are expected to improve gradually this afternoon as snow showers diminish.
