RIVERTON, Wyo. – Western Wyoming wakes to swirling clouds and fresh mountain snow this morning as a potent early-November storm grips the region. The peaks around the Tetons and Wind River Range are already white under steady flurries, with wind gusts sweeping snow across the higher passes and ridgelines.
According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through early afternoon for the Teton and Gros Ventre Mountains. Snow totals of 6 to 10 inches are likely in elevations above 8,000 feet, with blowing snow reducing visibility near Togwotee and Teton Pass. Winds could gust up to 45 mph, creating hazardous travel for truckers and weekend skiers heading west.
In the basins, including Riverton and Casper, skies stay partly sunny but breezy, with highs near 58°F. By Friday, a cooler northwest flow will follow the system, keeping highs in the upper 40s to near 50°F and lows dipping toward the mid-20s. The cold air will settle east by Saturday, delivering crisp mornings, dry air, and calmer winds — perfect for those catching up on outdoor chores before the next front approaches.
Drivers on I-80, U.S. 191, and Highway 26 should use caution where blowing snow may briefly cut visibility. Ranchers and hunters in higher terrain should prepare for limited access on backcountry roads and chilly early-morning starts.
Looking ahead, another round of unsettled weather may approach Wyoming by mid-November, just in time to test early Thanksgiving travel plans across the northern Rockies.
