CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Dangerous crosswinds are expected to blast the I-25 corridor between Chugwater and Wheatland through Monday evening as a High Wind Warning remains in effect, with gusts potentially reaching 65 mph. Travel for light and high-profile vehicles could become treacherous, particularly near Bordeaux.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, the warning extends from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. MDT as a strong pressure gradient channels powerful west winds through the Laramie Range. Blowing dust and sudden gusts may reduce visibility and make steering difficult for trucks, campers, and trailers.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) advises motorists along I-25 to delay travel or secure cargo, especially for north–south routes exposed to crosswinds. Trucks with light or empty trailers are at the highest risk of being blown over. Local law enforcement may close stretches of I-25 if wind conditions worsen.
Residents in open or elevated areas should secure outdoor items and avoid parking vehicles beneath large trees or near power lines. Those in mobile homes should ensure anchors are tight. Power flickers are possible as wind gusts increase by midday.
Winds are expected to weaken after sunset as temperatures fall into the 30s, though breezy conditions will linger into Tuesday morning. Cooler, calmer weather returns midweek before another Pacific front approaches by late week.
