Riverton, WY – Rain, snow, and strong wind gusts are set to create hazardous travel conditions across central Wyoming this weekend, with Riverton facing sharp temperature drops and mixed precipitation starting Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, a fast-moving weather system will sweep through western and central Wyoming Saturday through Tuesday. Expect rain showers to develop late Friday into early Saturday, transitioning into snow across higher elevations. Wind gusts may reach up to 32 mph on Saturday, especially along open roadways including stretches of I-25 and highways connecting Natrona and Fremont counties.
Snow accumulation will vary by elevation, with lower valleys like Riverton seeing less than a half-inch and over 6 inches expected in the Bighorns, Absaroka, and eastern Wind River Mountain slopes by Sunday morning. Rain and snow showers are expected to continue into early next week, bringing cooler temperatures and slick roads.
