Wyoming – A sharp, stinging cold greets central Wyoming this morning as clear skies give way to building clouds and falling temperatures. Breath hangs in the air, and frost coats windshields across the Wind River Basin.

According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, a Hazardous Weather Outlook remains in effect for western and central Wyoming. Light snow is expected to spread east of the Continental Divide later today, followed by much colder air settling in through the weekend. Temperatures drop quickly after sunset, setting the stage for some of the coldest readings in several weeks.

Riverton starts the morning near 13 degrees, warming only into the low 30s this afternoon. Calm conditions early will give way to light northeast winds. Snow chances increase late today into tonight, though accumulations remain light. Even minor snowfall may create slick spots on untreated roads, especially after dark.

Friday turns colder. Highs struggle to reach the low 20s, with wind chills dipping into the single digits. Snow showers taper by midday, but cold air locks in. Friday night temperatures fall near zero, increasing the risk of flash freezing where snow melts during daylight hours.

Saturday stays cold but brighter. Sunshine returns, though highs remain in the mid-20s. Saturday night dips back into the single digits. Sunday brings more sunshine and slight moderation, with highs near the low 30s, though cold lingers after sunset.

Another round of light snow is possible east of the Divide Saturday night into Sunday. Early next week trends milder. Monday reaches near 41 under mostly sunny skies, with gradual warming continuing into Tuesday.

Dress in layers and limit time outdoors during the coldest periods. If you’re traveling tonight or Friday morning, allow extra stopping distance on icy roads. How cold did it feel in your neighborhood today?
