Riverton, Wyoming – Daily showers and thunderstorms could disrupt outdoor plans and increase travel risks across western and central Wyoming through early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, scattered thunderstorms are expected Thursday, with the greatest activity in the northern half of the region. A second weather system arrives Saturday night and may bring stronger storms, higher rain chances, and possible localized flooding from Jackson and Casper to Rock Springs and Riverton. The hazardous weather outlook covers areas including the Absaroka Mountains, Wind River Basin, and Bighorn Mountains through Wednesday.
Communities from Cody to Star Valley should prepare for possible downpours, slick roads, and sudden changes in visibility. Rain chances spike to 70% by Sunday night, with some areas seeing back-to-back evening storms. Winds will also increase across exposed ridges and plains, with gusts nearing 21 mph in the southern half of the state.
Drivers are urged to slow down on wet roads and avoid flooded low spots. Residents should secure loose items, monitor weather alerts, and prepare for possible power disruptions.
Another update is expected this weekend as precipitation chances remain in flux and additional advisories may be issued.
