RIVERTON, Wyo. – Scattered thunderstorms could bring heavy downpours and dangerous lightning across central and western Wyoming today, with the most active weather expected through Thursday evening. Drivers in Riverton and Casper should prepare for patchy morning fog and wet roads, followed by stormy conditions in the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, storms will be most widespread west of the Divide, with embedded thunderstorms carrying the threat of brief but intense rainfall. Lightning remains the primary hazard, though some heavier showers could also reduce visibility along highways, including U.S. 26 and Interstate 25.

By Friday, storm chances decrease to a 20–30% risk in Fremont and Natrona Counties, with sunshine returning by Saturday afternoon. Sunday and Labor Day look mostly sunny and warmer, offering a drier stretch for outdoor activities.

Officials advise residents to avoid open fields and ridge tops during storms, secure loose outdoor items, and limit travel in storm-prone areas until conditions improve. Spotters are encouraged to report rainfall totals online.

Thunderstorm chances taper off by Saturday night, with clear skies and highs in the 80s expected for the holiday weekend.
