Riverton, Wyoming – Spring storms will return to central Wyoming Thursday with thunderstorms, gusty winds, and renewed concerns about rising rivers and flash flooding. Residents along U.S. Highway 26 should prepare for strong crosswinds and slick roads beginning Thursday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, a 50% chance of showers and possible thunderstorms will develop after noon Thursday, with gusts reaching 25 mph. Rain may return Friday night and again Sunday through Monday, with new moisture systems sweeping across central and northern Wyoming.

Snowfall remains a concern in the Absaroka and Bighorn Mountains, where a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect. High-elevation areas could see continued accumulation through Thursday, increasing runoff and the risk of rising creeks.

Thursday’s high will reach 63°F in Riverton, followed by cooler, partly cloudy skies Friday. Another warmup is expected Saturday, but the weekend won’t stay dry for long. Showers return Saturday night, with storm chances peaking on Sunday afternoon.
