RIVERTON, Wyo. – Residents across western and central Wyoming could see isolated thunderstorms late Friday, with unsettled weather likely persisting through much of next week. The storms may bring lightning, gusty winds, and brief downpours, particularly in southern and western counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, thunderstorm chances are most likely in the southwest Friday afternoon and evening before spreading across western and southern Wyoming from Sunday through midweek. Dry air will keep Saturday mostly sunny statewide, but clouds and instability return by late Sunday.
Communities including Rock Springs, Lander, and Casper may face occasional delays on highways such as I-80 and U.S. 287 if storms intensify. Officials advise avoiding outdoor recreation in the mountains and valleys during peak storm hours and remind residents to secure outdoor items that could be blown around by gusty winds.
Temperatures will remain warm despite the storm chances, with highs in the upper 70s and low 80s expected through Tuesday. Overnight lows will dip into the 40s.
Storm activity could linger through Thursday, with the potential for additional advisories if conditions worsen.
