Cheyenne, Wyoming – Severe weather is set to hit much of western Nebraska and southeast Wyoming today, with the greatest risks arriving between 3 and 8 p.m. Friday. Large hail, damaging winds over 60 mph, flash flooding, and a few isolated tornadoes—especially in the Nebraska Panhandle—are all possible as storms intensify this afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe storms covers a wide area, including Cheyenne, Scottsbluff, Torrington, Sidney, and the I-80 corridor. The strongest cells may produce hail up to two inches in diameter and gusts strong enough to down trees or cause scattered power outages. Isolated tornadoes can’t be ruled out, particularly near the Nebraska border.

Residents from Kimball to Wheatland and along U.S. Highway 385 should expect rapidly changing conditions. Avoid non-essential travel during peak storm hours, secure outdoor items, and make sure mobile devices are fully charged. Flash flooding could impact low-lying roads—never drive through standing water.

This marks one of the most active severe weather days of the summer for the region. More warnings or advisories could be issued this evening if storms persist.
