Cheyenne, Wyoming – Strong thunderstorms could sweep across southeastern Wyoming Thursday afternoon, bringing gusty winds, hail, and bursts of heavy rain that may impact travel and outdoor plans across the region.

According to the US National Weather Service in Cheyenne, a marginal risk for severe weather exists from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 24. The strongest storms are expected to develop during this window, with counties including Laramie, Platte, Goshen, Albany, and parts of Converse under increased threat for damaging wind gusts and small hail.

Residents in Cheyenne, Laramie, Wheatland, Torrington, and surrounding towns should prepare for fast-changing weather conditions. Motorists on I-25 and I-80 may encounter sudden downpours, slick roads, and reduced visibility. Emergency managers urge residents to secure outdoor items, charge devices, and monitor weather alerts in case warnings are issued. If thunder roars, move indoors and avoid driving through flooded roads.

This marginal severe threat comes as a classic July storm system sweeps across the High Plains, similar to weather seen earlier this summer. Heavy rain could cause localized ponding or flash flooding, especially in low-lying areas.

Storm risks are expected to taper off after 8 p.m., but additional updates may follow if conditions change. Stay alert for further advisories from the National Weather Service.
