Cheyenne, Wyo. – Scattered severe thunderstorms are expected across southeast Wyoming this afternoon and evening, with the greatest impacts likely between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. Wednesday. Residents in cities like Cheyenne, Torrington, and Wheatland should prepare for damaging wind gusts, large hail, and possible flash flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, storms will begin developing early this afternoon and could turn severe, especially along and east of the I-25 corridor. A Level 2 (Slight) risk is in place for much of the region, with localized downpours and an isolated tornado not ruled out.

Cities including Laramie, Douglas, and Sidney may also experience multiple rounds of thunderstorms. Travel conditions may deteriorate quickly during downpours or hail, especially on U.S. Highways 85 and 26. Emergency officials advise residents to secure outdoor items and stay weather-aware.

To stay safe, have multiple ways to receive alerts and be prepared to move to shelter if warnings are issued. Power outages are possible where winds exceed 60 mph.

Storm activity is expected to taper off late this evening, but additional advisories could be issued if storms redevelop overnight.
