Cheyenne, Wyoming – Severe thunderstorms could bring damaging winds, hail, and heavy downpours to southeast Wyoming and western Nebraska Friday afternoon, threatening travel and outdoor plans from 3 to 8 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, the strongest storms are expected to develop late Friday afternoon, especially in cities like Cheyenne, Torrington, Laramie, and Scottsbluff. The marginal risk includes the potential for wind gusts over 50 mph and isolated hail, with heavy rain that could trigger localized flooding on rural roads and low-lying areas.

Residents along Interstate 80 and U.S. Highway 85 should remain alert for rapidly changing weather and possible road closures. Outdoor events and summer activities in Albany, Goshen, and Laramie counties may need to be rescheduled as storms approach. Emergency officials recommend securing outdoor items, charging phones, and preparing for power outages. Drivers should avoid flooded roads and check local updates before traveling.

This is the region’s first severe storm threat in July. If you live in or near Cheyenne, Laramie, Pine Bluffs, or Scottsbluff, stay weather aware and be ready to act quickly if warnings are issued. Additional advisories may be posted if the threat increases.
