Wyoming – Winds roar through the plains this morning, sweeping dust and loose snow across Interstate 80 as another powerful cold surge grips western and central Wyoming. Gusts up to 50 mph are possible near Cody and Riverton, creating low visibility and difficult travel through high passes and open valleys.

According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, conditions will remain breezy and cool through today before snow chances develop late Thursday night into Friday. The system will spread from the northwest mountains toward central Wyoming, bringing a 1–2 inch snow potential across lower elevations and heavier totals—possibly up to 12 inches—in the Jackson and Star Valleys through Saturday night.

Drivers along Highways 26, 287, and I-80 should expect reduced visibility from blowing snow and slick surfaces as melted patches refreeze through the evening. The combination of strong winds and light snowfall may also cause localized whiteouts across ridge lines and open terrain.

By Sunday, skies gradually clear as highs rebound into the lower 40s, signaling a brief lull before another potential system develops early next week. Residents are urged to secure outdoor decorations, monitor travel advisories, and plan ahead for shifting conditions through the weekend.

Five-Day Outlook (Riverton, WY):

  • Friday: Breezy, chance of snow, high 36°F.
