JACKSON, Wyo. – Drivers and hunters in western Wyoming should brace for slick and snow-covered roads as a Winter Weather Advisory takes effect Wednesday evening, bringing several inches of snow to mountain passes through late Thursday. Travel over Togwotee and Teton Passes could become treacherous, with up to 10 inches possible in higher elevations.
According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, snow is expected to begin around 6 p.m. Wednesday and continue until 11 p.m. Thursday. Total accumulations of 1 to 4 inches are forecast between 7,500 and 9,000 feet, with heavier amounts above that level across the Teton, Gros Ventre, Salt River, and Wyoming Ranges.
The wintry mix will create slippery travel for commuters and outdoor enthusiasts, particularly hunters heading into the backcountry. Motorists are urged to slow down and allow extra travel time, as visibility and traction will drop quickly on mountain routes.
For updated road conditions, the Wyoming Department of Transportation advises checking wyoroad.info before heading out. The advisory remains in effect through Thursday night, with lingering snow possible into early Friday morning.
