Riverton, WY – A burst of warm spring air will sweep into central Wyoming Monday, but it won’t arrive quietly. Gusty winds up to 30 mph are forecast across Riverton and surrounding areas as temperatures climb into the upper 60s.
According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, strong winds will begin developing by mid-morning Monday. Wind gusts between 25 and 31 mph are expected, especially in the lee of the Absaroka Mountains and along open highways such as U.S. Route 26 and U.S. 20. Drivers of high-profile vehicles should take caution during peak wind periods.
Temperatures will rise well above normal for late March, hitting a high of 67°F on Monday. The week ahead remains mostly dry, with highs staying in the 60s through Friday. Tuesday and Wednesday will bring plenty of sunshine with daytime highs nearing 70°F, while overnight lows dip to the mid-30s.
Winds will ease slightly Tuesday, remaining under 20 mph. By Thursday night into Friday, a chance of scattered rain and snow showers will return, with a noticeable drop in temperatures expected by Saturday.
Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items and monitor updated advisories as conditions evolve. While no hazardous weather is expected beyond Monday, sudden wind shifts can still pose challenges, particularly for travelers and outdoor workers.
Spotter activation is not currently expected, but the National Weather Service urges vigilance as Wyoming’s spring conditions can change rapidly.
