Cheyenne, WY – Residents in southern and central Wyoming are waking up to a Freeze Warning in effect through 10 a.m. Wednesday, with temperatures expected to dip as low as 30 degrees in several communities.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, the warning covers Carbon County, Shirley Basin, the North Snowy Range Foothills, the Upper North Platte River Basin, and the Laramie Valley. Cities under the advisory include Rawlins, Saratoga, Baggs, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow, Laramie, Encampment, and Shirley Basin.
Forecasters said sub-freezing temperatures and widespread frost could cause damage to gardens, crops, and other sensitive vegetation. Outdoor plumbing and sprinkler systems may also be at risk if not properly winterized.
The warning went into effect at 2 a.m. MDT Wednesday and will remain in place until 10 a.m. MDT. This early freeze serves as a reminder for residents to begin preparing for colder seasonal conditions as Wyoming transitions into fall.
Officials recommend covering or bringing in tender plants, disconnecting hoses, and protecting exposed pipes to avoid costly damage.
This warning marks the first significant cold-weather advisory of the season across much of southern Wyoming.
