Cheyenne, WY — Dense fog blanketed parts of the I-80 corridor early Monday, creating hazardous travel conditions with visibility dropping to a quarter mile or less. As the fog gradually lifts by late morning, residents of Cheyenne and surrounding areas are urged to prepare for a significant change in weather, with the National Weather Service (NWS) issuing a warning for severe thunderstorms.

According to the NWS in Cheyenne, monsoon moisture has surged back into the region, setting the stage for scattered to numerous thunderstorms beginning this afternoon. The storms are expected to bring heavy rainfall, with the primary concerns being strong, gusty winds and the potential for isolated hail. The timing for the most severe weather is projected between 1 PM and 11 PM, though lingering showers and thunderstorms may persist into the night.

Residents should remain vigilant as localized flash flooding is possible, particularly in low-lying areas. The NWS advises securing outdoor objects that could be blown away by strong winds and seeking shelter indoors during thunderstorms. Additionally, motorists are encouraged to drive with caution due to the morning fog and be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions throughout the day.
