Casper, Wyoming – Snow developing late tonight could create slick travel across central Wyoming by the Friday morning commute, while heavier snowfall builds across surrounding mountain ranges and high passes.

According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, multiple Winter Weather Advisories are in effect across Wyoming through Friday, with snow spreading from western mountains into central basins overnight. Lower elevations around Casper and the Lander Foothills could see 1 to 3 inches of snow between 8 p.m. tonight and 2 p.m. Friday, with precipitation initially starting as rain before changing to snow.

Heavier snowfall is expected in the surrounding mountains. The Wind River Mountains, Teton Range, and Gros Ventre Mountains could see 4 to 8 inches, while elevations above 8,500 feet may receive up to 10 inches. Travel may become difficult on mountain routes including Teton Pass, Togwotee Pass, and South Pass, where steady snowfall is expected through Friday afternoon.

Northern Wyoming will also see accumulating snow in the Bighorn Mountains, where 4 to 8 inches and wind gusts up to 40 mph could reduce visibility near Powder River Pass through late Friday morning.

Farther west, Yellowstone National Park could receive up to 4 inches of additional snow through late Thursday afternoon, affecting travel near Old Faithful, Mammoth, and Lake Village.

Drivers should slow down and check wyoroad.info for the latest Wyoming Department of Transportation road conditions before traveling.

Snow will continue in several mountain regions into Friday afternoon, and additional travel advisories could follow if snowfall rates increase overnight.
