Cheyenne, WY – Travel along Interstate 80 and Interstate 25 could turn dangerous before sunrise Tuesday as wind gusts near 70 mph sweep across southern and central Wyoming.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, High Wind Warnings are in effect at varying times through Tuesday evening for Carbon, Albany, Platte and Converse counties. Arlington, Elk Mountain and the North Snowy Range Foothills will see southwest winds of 30 to 45 mph with gusts around 65 mph from 2 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Rawlins and the Ferris, Seminoe and Shirley mountains enter the warning at 5 p.m. Monday, with gusts up to 70 mph continuing through 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Along Interstate 25 near Bordeaux between Chugwater and Wheatland, and across the Laramie Valley including Laramie and Bosler, winds will increase to 35 to 50 mph with gusts near 70 mph from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Strong crosswinds will pose a serious hazard to light-weight and high-profile vehicles, including semitrailers and campers. Blowing and drifting snow may reduce visibility below one mile at times along I-80 and portions of I-25.

Drivers should delay travel if possible and secure loose outdoor items. Additional restrictions for high-profile vehicles are possible if gusts exceed projections.
