CHEYENNE, WY — Wyoming braces for another round of dangerous high winds Monday as strong gusts sweep across the Laramie Range and southern foothills, threatening travel along Interstate 25 and Interstate 80 through early Tuesday morning.
The National Weather Service in Cheyenne has issued multiple High Wind Warnings, with gusts reaching 60 to 70 mph from Arlington to Bordeaux, including Elk Mountain, Vedauwoo, and the I-80 Summit between Cheyenne and Laramie. Winds will strengthen mid-morning and persist through the night, easing toward dawn Tuesday.
These intense crosswinds pose a serious hazard to lightweight and high-profile vehicles, especially semi-trucks, RVs, and campers. Blowing debris and reduced visibility are also possible along open stretches of highway.
Officials urge drivers to delay travel where possible, secure loose outdoor items, and use caution when crossing bridges or exposed ridges.
The strong wind setup comes as colder air presses east from the Rockies — a classic late-November pattern for Wyoming. Gusts this strong can topple semi-trailers, down tree limbs, and make travel nearly impossible for smaller vehicles on east-west roads.
