Cheyenne, Wyoming – Snow and gusty winds are expected to make travel difficult across southeast Wyoming and the Nebraska Panhandle today, with several inches of accumulation and blowing snow likely along key highways before evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. MST Friday for much of southeast Wyoming, including Cheyenne, Laramie, Rawlins, Arlington, Elk Mountain, and the Laramie Valley. Snow totals between 3 and 7 inches are expected in lower elevations, while mountain ranges such as the Snowy Range and Sierra Madre could receive 4 to 8 inches through midnight. Wind gusts may reach 40 to 45 mph, creating areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility.

Travel along Interstate 80 between Laramie and Rawlins, including the wind-prone areas near Arlington and Elk Mountain, could become slick and hazardous during both the morning and evening commutes. Portions of the Nebraska Panhandle, including Chadron and Harrison, are also under the advisory with 1 to 4 inches of snow expected in the Pine Ridge region.

Drivers should slow down, allow extra braking distance, and check Wyoming and Nebraska 511 road reports before traveling.

Snow and gusty winds may persist into Friday night in the higher mountains before conditions gradually improve after midnight. Additional advisories remain possible if snowfall intensifies.
