Cheyenne, Wyoming – Dangerous fire conditions and powerful wind gusts will develop within hours across southeast Wyoming, creating immediate travel hazards and a high risk for rapid wildfire spread.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, a High Wind Watch is in effect from 9 a.m. Tuesday through 3 p.m. Wednesday, with west winds gusting up to 60 mph along the I-80 corridor, especially near Arlington and Elk Mountain. These crosswinds could make travel hazardous for high-profile vehicles, including semis and RVs.

By late Wednesday morning into the evening, conditions escalate further as a Red Flag Warning takes effect. Wind gusts between 30 and 50 mph combined with relative humidity as low as 10 to 15 percent will create critical fire weather conditions across Cheyenne, Laramie, Wheatland, and extending into western Nebraska.

At the same time, record warmth intensifies the threat. Highs will climb into the low 80s in Cheyenne and upper 80s to near 90 degrees in Scottsbluff and Sidney, running up to 10 degrees above daily records.

Avoid any outdoor burning, secure loose objects, and delay travel along I-80 if possible. Conditions begin to ease late Wednesday, but fire danger will remain elevated with additional advisories possible.
