Casper, WY – Strong outflow winds are sweeping across Wyoming on Sunday, bringing gusts up to 55 mph along with scattered thunderstorms, lightning, and the risk of small hail.

According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, storms developing over the state are producing widespread gusts of 40 to 50 mph, with isolated higher bursts possible through 8 p.m. Counties under the greatest threat include Johnson, Natrona, Fremont, Sweetwater, Sublette, and Lincoln, along with Yellowstone National Park and Jackson Hole.

In central Wyoming, winds may make driving hazardous along Interstate 25 near Casper and I-80 through Rock Springs and Green River. Lightning strikes and brief bursts of hail are also possible in areas such as Riverton, Lander, Cody, and Buffalo, especially where skies cleared earlier in the day and fueled storm instability.

Travelers pulling trailers or high-profile vehicles should use extra caution and consider delaying evening trips. Residents are also urged to secure outdoor furniture, trampolines, and other items that could be blown around.

Storms are expected to weaken later tonight, but additional advisories may be issued if conditions intensify.
