Cheyenne, Wyoming – Explosive fire conditions are developing across southeast Wyoming today, with strong winds and extremely dry air creating a high risk for rapid wildfire spread within minutes.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, a Red Flag Warning is in effect from 10 a.m. Wednesday through 8 p.m. Saturday for much of the region. Wind gusts are expected to reach 30 to 40 mph each afternoon, while relative humidity drops to between 10 and 15 percent, creating critical fire weather conditions.

Communities including Cheyenne, Laramie, Torrington, and Wheatland are under the highest threat, especially along open grasslands and corridors like I-25 and I-80 where winds can accelerate. Any spark could quickly grow out of control under these conditions.

Officials strongly urge residents to avoid outdoor burning, secure trailer chains, and delay activities that could produce sparks routine tasks like equipment use or parking on dry grass could ignite fires.

Conditions will persist daily through Saturday evening, with little overnight recovery in humidity. Residents should remain alert and prepared for rapidly changing fire behavior. Additional warnings or restrictions may be issued as this prolonged fire threat continues.
