Cheyenne, Wyoming – Snow will begin covering highways in Converse and Niobrara counties by 5 p.m. Wednesday, setting up slick bridges and reduced visibility through the Thursday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 5 p.m. Wednesday to 11 a.m. MST Thursday for Converse County lower elevations, Niobrara County and the North Laramie Range. Forecasters expect 3 to 5 inches in lower elevations, with 4 to 8 inches possible over the northern Laramie Range. Wind gusts could reach 35 mph, creating areas of drifting snow.
Communities including Douglas, Glenrock, Lusk and areas near Deer Creek and Redbird could see steady snowfall overnight. Interstate 25 between Douglas and Glenrock and portions of Highway 18 and Highway 20 may become snow-packed, especially on elevated stretches and overpasses.
Blowing snow could briefly reduce visibility in open areas, particularly along the North Laramie Range. Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and check road conditions by calling 511 before traveling.
Snow is expected to taper late Thursday morning, but icy patches may linger beyond 11 a.m. Additional advisories are possible if snowfall rates increase overnight.
