Cheyenne, Wyoming – Moderate to heavy snow Tuesday may trigger travel hazards across southeast Wyoming.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, a Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the Sierra Madre and Snowy Ranges, while a Winter Weather Advisory covers the Arlington area and surrounding portions of Carbon and Albany counties.
Snowfall accumulations of 3 to 4 inches are forecast near Arlington, Centennial and Albany, with 1 to 2 inches possible around Saratoga. Lesser totals under 1 inch are expected farther north and east, including near Douglas and Wheatland. Snow squalls may also develop west of Interstate 25, producing sudden bursts of heavy snow and sharply reduced visibility.
Blowing snow is expected in open areas, especially along Interstate 80 between Rawlins and Laramie, where gusty winds frequently create hazardous crosswinds and drifting. Visibility could drop quickly during heavier bands or squalls, increasing the risk of spinouts and chain restrictions.
Officials advise drivers to prepare for slick roads, fluctuating visibility and changing conditions throughout Tuesday. Travel across mountain passes, including near the Snowy and Sierra Madre ranges, may become difficult at times.
The system is expected to impact both daytime commuters and evening travelers, particularly along I-80 and higher elevation roadways. Conditions may vary significantly over short distances.
Motorists are urged to check updated forecasts and road conditions before traveling.
