Cheyenne, WY – Wind gusts approaching 100 mph are expected to slam parts of southeast Wyoming, creating dangerous travel conditions on major highways and raising the risk of vehicle blowovers through Saturday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, a High Wind Warning remains in effect across much of southeast Wyoming through midnight Saturday night, with the strongest winds focused along the Laramie Range and Interstate 80 Summit between Cheyenne and Laramie. West winds of 40 to 60 mph could produce gusts near 100 mph in the North Laramie Range, while surrounding areas including Rawlins, Douglas, and the Laramie Valley may see gusts between 80 and 90 mph.

The powerful crosswinds are expected to create hazardous conditions for high-profile vehicles on Interstate 80 near Arlington, Elk Mountain, and Vedauwoo, as well as Interstate 25 near the Bordeaux area between Chugwater and Wheatland. Transportation officials warn that campers, box trucks, and tractor trailers are especially vulnerable to being pushed across lanes or overturned.

Further east, parts of the Nebraska Panhandle including Scottsbluff, Chadron, Alliance, and Sidney remain under a High Wind Warning until 9 p.m. Thursday, where gusts up to 75 mph could generate blowing dust and sharply reduced visibility on open highways.

Residents across the region should secure outdoor items, delay travel in high-profile vehicles, and avoid burning due to elevated fire risk. Strong winds are expected to persist with occasional lulls through Saturday night, and additional advisories could be issued if conditions intensify along major transportation corridors.
