Cheyenne, WY – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 a.m. Wednesday for northern Carbon County and the northern Laramie Range. Snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are forecast for Carbon County, while the mountains are expected to receive up to an inch.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Cheyenne, the advisory warns of slick and hazardous road conditions, particularly along I-80 and state highways crossing northern Carbon County. Drivers are urged to use caution and plan for potential delays, especially during the early hours of New Year’s Day. Temperatures will remain frigid overnight, with lows near 14 degrees and wind chills plunging below zero.
Wednesday will bring partly sunny skies and slightly warmer conditions, with highs around 36 degrees. However, a 20% chance of snow showers is expected late Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Breezy conditions may also accompany the snowfall, creating additional travel hazards. Looking ahead, Thursday and Friday will offer a brief respite, with highs in the low 40s and mostly clear skies.
Residents in southeast Wyoming should remain vigilant and monitor updates from the NWS for potential changes to the forecast. If traveling during the advisory period, ensure your vehicle is winter-ready, and check road conditions at wyoroad.info before heading out.
