Cheyenne, WY – Warmer-than-average temperatures and precipitation are shaping Cheyenne’s weather pattern this holiday week, bringing mixed rain and snow on Christmas Day. Forecasters are urging residents to prepare for potential slippery roads and changing conditions as the week progresses.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Monday will remain partly sunny with highs near 50°F and light winds. By Tuesday, the region will experience clear skies and slightly cooler highs around 48°F. South winds will increase Tuesday night as clouds move in, bringing a low near 28°F.
Christmas Day is expected to see a mix of rain and snow, with a 30% chance of precipitation. Highs will approach 49°F, but colder overnight temperatures could cause ice to form on roads, especially in shaded areas or bridges. The NWS has advised holiday travelers to monitor road conditions closely and allow extra time for commutes.
Looking further ahead, Thursday brings mostly sunny skies with highs near 45°F, offering a calmer end to the week. However, another round of snow showers could develop by Wednesday night, with a 20% chance of snow in Cheyenne and lows dipping to 22°F.
Holiday travelers should also take note of the Climate Prediction Center’s 6-10 day outlook, which calls for above-normal precipitation and temperatures through New Year’s Day. This pattern could impact travel plans and outdoor celebrations across southeast Wyoming.
