Binghamton, N.Y. – Damaging winds and scattered severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across parts of Pennsylvania and New York between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, as a cold front sweeps across the region. The highest threat zone includes the Wyoming Valley-Poconos of Pennsylvania and the Catskills of New York.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, showers will spread west to east through the morning before intensifying into stronger storms by midday. The storms may bring wind gusts up to 60 mph, creating hazards for travel and possible power outages. While large hail and isolated tornadoes are less likely, they cannot be ruled out.
Drivers along Interstates 81 and 84 could encounter reduced visibility and sudden wind shifts during the afternoon hours. Outdoor activities, especially in higher terrain areas of the Catskills and Poconos, may need to be postponed as fast-moving storms track through. Officials advise residents to secure loose outdoor items and keep multiple ways to receive weather alerts.
The severe weather threat will ease by evening as cooler air filters into the region. However, additional updates or warnings could be issued throughout the afternoon.
