Salt Lake City, Utah – Strong thunderstorms are expected to develop across Utah and southwest Wyoming by Wednesday afternoon, bringing the potential for isolated damaging wind gusts and frequent lightning across the West Desert and Southwest Utah.
According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) is in effect through this evening due to a surge of monsoonal moisture pushing into the region. The main threat zone includes cities such as Cedar City, Delta, and surrounding desert communities.
Winds could gust high enough to damage trees or unsecured outdoor items. Lightning strikes are also likely in isolated areas, which could trigger fire concerns in dry terrain. Residents in Iron, Millard, and Juab counties should remain weather-aware, especially if traveling along I-15 or U.S. Route 6.
If storms approach, head indoors and avoid outdoor activities. Charge devices and secure loose belongings ahead of time. While the storms are expected to remain isolated, the National Weather Service urges vigilance.
The threat is expected to taper off late Wednesday evening, though additional storm chances remain possible through the week. Stay tuned for updates.
