Cheyenne, Wyoming – Strong thunderstorms could hit eastern Wyoming communities between 2 and 8 p.m. Wednesday, bringing the threat of damaging wind gusts over 60 mph, small hail, and frequent dangerous lightning, especially along the Casper-to-Cheyenne corridor.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, a marginal risk of severe weather covers much of eastern Wyoming and the Nebraska panhandle this afternoon and evening. Scattered storms are expected to develop, with the primary hazards including locally heavy rainfall, intense lightning, and the possibility of wind damage from fast-moving storms.
Cities under threat include Cheyenne, Casper, Douglas, and Laramie in Wyoming, as well as Scottsbluff, Chadron, Alliance, and Sidney in Nebraska. Motorists on I-25 and I-80 should be prepared for sudden changes in visibility, downed tree limbs, and quickly rising water on roads. The National Weather Service advises residents to secure outdoor items, avoid travel during severe storms, and have multiple ways to receive warnings in case storms intensify.
Storms are forecast to subside after 8 p.m., but additional watches or warnings may be issued if conditions worsen. Stay tuned to local updates as this weather system unfolds through Wednesday evening.
