Cheyenne, Wyo. – Strong to severe thunderstorms will sweep across southeastern Wyoming and the Nebraska Panhandle Saturday afternoon, bringing damaging wind gusts, large hail, flash flooding, and a low tornado risk between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, storms are expected to rapidly intensify after midday, especially east of I-25 and near the Nebraska border. Wind gusts could exceed 75 mph in isolated storms, while hailstones larger than 2 inches in diameter are possible in areas such as Scottsbluff, Alliance, and Sidney.

The highest risk zone—classified as “Enhanced”—covers far southeast Wyoming into western Nebraska, including Torrington, Pine Bluffs, and Kimball. Flash flooding may develop quickly in areas with repeated downpours, particularly where soils remain saturated from earlier storms. Residents should avoid low-lying roads and be prepared for rapid weather changes. Lightning and brief tornado spin-ups cannot be ruled out.

Travelers along I-80 and U.S. 85 should monitor radar updates and consider delaying trips until the storm window passes. Charge phones, secure loose outdoor items, and have a safe shelter ready.

Storms are expected to weaken after 7 p.m., but additional watches may be issued later tonight depending on storm development.
