Cheyenne, WY – The National Weather Service has issued multiple High Wind Warnings and Freeze Watches spanning much of Wyoming and the Nebraska Panhandle this weekend, as a strong cold front sweeps through the region from Sunday into early Monday morning.
According to meteorologists, sustained winds of 35–45 mph with gusts reaching up to 70 mph are expected in parts of central and southeast Wyoming, including Bordeaux, Wheatland, Guernsey, Horse Creek, and the South Laramie Range foothills. The High Wind Warnings will remain in effect from the early morning hours of Sunday through Sunday evening, creating dangerous crosswinds for high-profile vehicles along Interstate 25 and adjacent highways.
As the front passes, temperatures are forecast to plunge sharply overnight. Freeze Watches have been issued across northern, central, and southeastern Wyoming, as well as the Nebraska Panhandle, with lows expected between 25°F and 28°F. Impacted areas include Lovell, Greybull, Worland, Buffalo, Cheyenne, Scottsbluff, Kimball, and Chadron.
The National Weather Service warns that frost and freezing conditions could kill crops and sensitive vegetation and damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Residents are urged to cover plants, drain garden hoses, and secure outdoor furniture before the cold sets in.
The combination of powerful winds and plunging temperatures marks one of the first significant fall weather systems of the season. Travelers and farmers alike are advised to monitor local forecasts and exercise caution throughout the event.
