Cheyenne, Wyoming – Residents along the Wyoming-Nebraska-South Dakota border should prepare for strong thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon, with the most dangerous activity expected between 2 and 8 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, scattered storms will develop east of a Casper-to-Cheyenne line and could become severe in localized areas. The strongest cells may bring large hail, wind gusts over 60 mph, heavy downpours, and frequent lightning.

Cities including Cheyenne, Torrington, Chadron, and Alliance are in the slight risk zone for severe weather. U.S. Highway 85 and Interstate 25 travelers should monitor conditions closely, especially during the afternoon commute. Power outages and brief flooding in low-lying areas are possible during peak storm activity.

The Weather Service advises residents to remain alert for warnings and have multiple ways to receive emergency updates. “Know your safe place before you need it,” the agency posted, reminding people to avoid outdoor activities and seek shelter indoors when storms approach.

Storm activity should taper off after sunset, but additional alerts may be issued if conditions persist.
