Riverton, WY – The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for multiple counties across central and southwest Wyoming, signaling critical fire weather conditions today and again from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, the warning covers Lincoln, Uinta, Sweetwater, Fremont, Natrona, and Sublette counties, as well as areas including the Upper Green River Basin, Rock Springs BLM, and the Wind River Mountains. Forecasters say the combination of low humidity—dropping as low as 10 percent—hot temperatures reaching the lower 90s, and strong, gusty winds up to 35 mph could cause erratic and dangerous fire behavior throughout the region.

The Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. this evening and will be reissued for the same hours on Tuesday. According to officials, affected areas include Fire Weather Zones 277, 278, 279, 280, 283, 288, and 289, spanning significant stretches of both public and private land in central and west central Wyoming.

Residents and land managers are urged to use extreme caution with open flames, machinery, or any activity that could generate sparks. The NWS warns that a combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can rapidly escalate fire growth and make suppression efforts challenging. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged during the warning period.
