Rawlins, WY – Traffic along Interstate 80 slowed Monday after a semi-truck carrying multiple vehicles caught fire near mile marker 196, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
Troopers reported that the fire broke out on the westbound lanes of I-80, west of Rawlins. Authorities confirmed that no injuries have been reported at this time. However, traffic remains congested in the area as emergency crews work to extinguish the blaze and remove the damaged truck.
Photos released by troopers show thick black smoke billowing from the vehicle carrier, followed by images of the truck’s burned frame after firefighters contained the fire. The incident has forced motorists to slow down significantly, and officials are urging drivers to use caution, be aware of their surroundings, and prepare for potential delays.
I-80 is a key cross-state route in southern Wyoming, and closures or delays along the highway often cause extended travel disruptions. Troopers have not released the cause of the fire, and an investigation is ongoing.
Drivers traveling through the area are advised to allow extra time and check for updated road conditions before continuing westbound through Carbon County.
