Laramie, WY – A Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) snowplow was struck by a passenger vehicle late Monday night on Interstate 80 near Laramie, marking the sixth snowplow collision in the southeast region this winter. The crash occurred around 10:00 p.m. on April 1 at mile marker 317 in the eastbound lanes.

The driver of the passenger vehicle, traveling at a high rate of speed, rear-ended the snowplow as it was performing operations at the closure gate. The snowplow had just completed dropping the closure gate when the collision occurred. While the snowplow operator was unharmed, the passenger vehicle sustained extensive damage. The crash injured the occupants of the passenger vehicle, although details on their conditions remain limited as the investigation continues.

This marks the 14th snowplow collision in Wyoming this winter season, with six occurring in District 1 alone. Wyoming law requires drivers to yield to emergency vehicles and maintenance crews. The crash occurred under conditions of black ice and slick roads, which contributed to the dangerous driving environment.

WYDOT urges drivers to exercise caution in winter conditions, including checking road conditions before traveling and adjusting speed to suit road conditions. Motorists can use WYDOT’s 511 tools for real-time road updates.
