RIVERTON, Wyo. – Residents across central Wyoming will face another stretch of extreme heat this week, with Riverton expected to hit 100 degrees by Wednesday afternoon. The National Weather Service warns that widespread haze and high temperatures will remain in place through Thursday before easing slightly into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service office in Riverton, Tuesday will bring haze before 11 a.m. followed by sunshine and a high near 96 degrees. Light winds will shift throughout the day, providing little relief. Wednesday is expected to be the hottest, with calm winds and highs around 100 degrees before clouds build overnight.
Communities from Casper to Lander could also see temperatures in the upper 90s, with Riverton and the Wind River Basin at the center of the heat. The NWS advises residents to limit outdoor activity, drink plenty of water, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets.
Thursday will remain hot with highs in the lower 90s, though conditions should moderate slightly into Friday with highs in the upper 80s. The next chance of rain doesn’t arrive until Sunday, when showers and thunderstorms could bring some relief.
